print magazine
Leaving television production and entering the print magazine industry was another new challenge for Wagner. Technically speaking, print magazine production requires a variety of different skills compared to television production. But, for Wagner, his vision of using media to create a sense of community was the common thread between these two outlets. Selective Hype Magazine took on a new focus from the TV show, placing greater emphasis on Montreal's urban active lifestyle. Wagner's initial years in the magazine industry were spent as an editor-in-chief, as well as manager of pre-press production. After 5 years he moved on to other endeavours, eventually working as a freelance layout artist with clients including the the Institute of Gender and Health (IGH)–a branch of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). Through his work on IGH's newsletter, Intersections, Wagner has demonstrated his keen eye for ethics in visual representation, and further honed his sensitivity to gender considerations specifically.
