The move from a Coordinator of the Teen Department at the local YMCA to a television producer at Vidéotron Cable in Montreal was a calculated risk for Wagner. Trying to find a better way to address specific needs in the community, Wagner put his filming experience to use and developed a television show that would satisfy these issues. On the surface, the television show, Selective Hype, presents itself as an urban magazine show that proved to be an underground hit with the young adults. Yet, Wagner's intentions went beyond that. He made it a priority to provide mentoring and media skills for a multitude of young adults mostly from visible minorities that would not otherwise have had that opportunity in the real world. In addition, Wagner felt that the large multi-ethnic population in Montreal severely lacked representation from the city's televised commercials and print media ads. Selective Hype was a chance to show otherwise.
